For men who've lost a role, a marriage, a person, or a direction — and need to see where things stand.
Developed over a decade of mentoring practice, the MIRF® maps identity as five working parts. It gives men in transition a structured way to see which parts are still holding, and which are under load.

We begin with this. Five parts of your identity we examine, to map where you are.
Most men who do this aren't in crisis. They are getting through the week. The cost shows up in disrupted sleep, poor decisions, and irritability.
Not a dashboard. Not a course. A personalised report you can read and return to as things shift. Plain language. Written to be used when you need it.
David KernohanFounder · Mentoring Through the Maze®
David Kernohan works with men aged 30 to 55 carrying major life disruption.
He built the MIRF® framework over years of direct one-to-one mentoring practice.
He is not a therapist. He is a mentor, a role he has held for over a decade.
The assessment is built on David's experience working with men. It lets you map your own situation before you talk to anyone.
If your question isn't here, write to David directly. This assessment isn't a funnel. Knowing what it does before you start is reasonable — and expected.
No. The assessment is a mentoring and self-reflection tool. It is not clinical. It does not diagnose, and it does not replace working with a psychologist, GP, or therapist. If you already work with one, the report is something you can read alongside that work.
This assessment is not built for acute crisis. If you are in distress, please reach out to a qualified professional or crisis line first.
In Australia, Lifeline (13 11 14) is available 24/7. Outside Australia, please use the crisis support line for your country before taking the assessment.
Your answers are used to generate your report and are not used to train any AI model. No personal information is passed to the AI layer that drafts the report narrative. You can request deletion of your responses at any time by emailing David directly.
If you take the assessment and believe it misses the mark, a refund may be provided after you have contacted David. Email david@mentoringthroughthemaze.com.au and tell him what was missed. He wants to understand why, so the assessment can be improved.
No. The report stands on its own. It is built to be read, sat with, and worked through privately. Mentoring is offered at the end of the report for men who want it, but the report is the product.
Most men who take the assessment do not book mentoring, and that is the design.
Yes. The report is yours. A number of men share it with a partner, a sibling, or a therapist they already work with. Others keep it private. Both are fine.
Usually within 10 minutes of completing the assessment. If something goes wrong on delivery, write to david@mentoringthroughthemaze.com.au and a copy will be sent within one business day.
